Jun 18, 2008 - BM news
On 26th June, Barcelona welcomed the workshop “Innovative Cities for the Next Generation”, which included a presentation of the latest innovations from the ICING project (Intelligent Cities of the Next Generation), of which Barcelona Media is a technological partner.
The aim of the event (which celebrated at Barcelona Activa) was to provide an overview of the cities of the future and to share the knowledge that has been acquired through presentations, demonstrations and prototypes of innovative services.
ICING, a European project developed in three years, is researching a multimodal, multi-access concept of e-Government. Twelve centres and groups from Barcelona, Dublin and Helsinki have participated to the research. The "thin-skinned city" model is sensitive both to citizens and to the environment, and operates through the use of mobile devices, universal access gateways, social software and environmental sensors.
Some representatives of the project research group assisted at the Barcelona workshop, as well as other collaborators, like Ignacio Mondine, from Daem Interactive, and Laura Rahola, from Bdebarna. Ju Young Byun, director of the u-city Policy Division of IFEZ (Korea), and Esteve Almirall, member of the i2cat of the European Network of Living Lab, also participated in the working day.
