Barcelona Media has organized the seminar "Internet Dreams: ethical challenges researching digital technologies" by Adolfo Estalella.

The seminar has dealt with the issue of ethics in sociological research on the Internet. Websites store large volumes of data resulting from social interactions. Internet users publish images, links to their preferences in music, books, movies and even political parties. This information is easy to access, consult and store. But its use creates ethical conflicts for the investigator, such as: What information can be used? Under which conditions? New practices are proposed to obtain the consent of the persons under investigation, as well as mental frameworks that can help overcome the dialectic between public and private information.

Adolfo Estalella is a doctoral researcher at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. His research interests comprise the forms of sociability that are developed through the Internet and digital technologies.
