Barcelona Media constitutes its International Scientific Committee

The 5th and 6th of June saw the establishment of the Barcelona Media International Scientific Committee. This first meeting took place at the centre’s facilities located in the 22@Barcelona district. The main objective was to appraise the whole of the research and development and innovation activity in the various lines and laboratories at the centre.
The Barcelona Media International Scientific Committee is made up of eight experts in the different fields of knowledge that the centre works in. The members of the Scientific Committee are: Jonathan D. Aronson, professor in communication at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California; Karlheinz Brandeburgo, professor at the Institute for Media Technology at the Technical University of Ilmenau and director of the Fruanhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT in Ilmenau; Jaime Carbonell, Alan Newell professor in Computation and director of the Language Technologies Institute at the Carnegie Mellon University; Manuel Castells, research professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), de Barcelona, Professor Emeritus in Sociology and Professor Emeritus in Regional and Urban Planning at the University of California, Berkeley (USA); Jaume Ferrús, director of new projects at Imagina and member of the Consejo de Administración of la Sexta; Paulette MacManus, lecturer in communication at University College London; Christophe Pallier, researcher at the National Centre of Recherche Scientifique (Francia) in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Unit; Prabhakar Raghavan, president of Yahoo! Research and professor at Stanford University.
Barcelona Media is a research and development centre in the communication sector employing more than 200 people from 24 countries. Its activity focuses on applied research and innovation in the field of communication, understood as the area of interaction between people, culture and technology.
Barcelona Media-Centre d’Innovació is a foundation with the participation, for the most part, of companies from the communication sector and also universities and public institutions. Barcelona Media is self-financed through the activities of its research lines and laboratories. 60% of the ordinary budget comes from contracts with companies and institutions and 40 % is self-financed with national, state and international funds.
